To celebrate the launch of the Green Carnation Award shortlist, & to kick start the Swindon LGBT Alternative Scene, we're trying to put together an LGBT reading group. The group would be based in Swindon's Central Library & would meet, where copies of the shortlist candidates would be made available in the new LGBT Collection.

If anyone is interested in taking part please let me know as soon as possible so we can start making arrangements & the library can order in enough books.

Pride

Hi All,

The LGBT in Libraries team had a stall at last weekend's Pride event. Hope everyone who attended had a great time & managed to pick up either one of the Library leaflets or one of the LGBT Community project leaflets from the organisers stall, which should tell you a bit more about what we are trying to create. As I was going round the Pride stalls I meet the group from Gay West who have set up a similar community 'Alternate Scene' project in Bath & the surrounding area including a Rainbow Cafe club, social outings & much more. One of the organisers of Gay West has agreed that if we want to put a group together to visit them & find out more about what they do & how they set it up we can, so if there is anyone out there who would like to go on a trip to Bath please respond to this post & as soon as we have enough people we can make arrangements. Or if you have any other comments to make about Pride or other potential events feel free.

Welcome to LGBT in Libraries

Swindon Public Libraries are working on a project to expand & improve
their services for LGBT readers - starting with improving LGBT stock &
making it easier to search & access. This part of the project will be
launched in Sept/Oct 2011.
The project is also looking at other ways of supporting the LGBT
community. For instance we are looking at ways of using online formats
such as blogs, tweets or facebook groups, to build an archive of LGBT
history in Swindon for LGBT History Month as well as looking for
in-person services, such as reading & community groups, we can
support.
To do any of this we will need input & advice from the community -
whether you suggest specific titles, or ideas for events or give us
information on other groups we could work with it will all help us to
continue to improve the service. Or you may just want to use this blog
as a forum for communicating with other LGBT members which is why this
blog is open to all.
All we ask is that you remember it's an open blog, which means it can
be accessed by people of all types & ages, so posts will be regularly
checked & any that are too abusive, offensive or explicit will be
removed.
