Swindon Gay Alliance

We are officially launching a new community group called Swindon Gay Alliance this week. The main mission of the group is to work with the LGBT community, the council & other local groups to create a new & alternative Scene - one which will offer something for everyone. We're hoping to offer a range of social events including coffee mornings, day trips, film nights & much more in addition to offering support & advice to community members in Swindon & the surrounding areas. Rainbow Room

Hi All,
We've had some success with the LGBT Alternative Community Group - the library now has a dedicated LGBT Literature collection & we've set up an LGBT Reading Group - but as you'll see from the attached poster we have a lot more projects we would like to start up so we need more participants. So if you would be interested in taking part in any of the events or would like to sign up to help set up any of the projects please get in contact - either through this blog or the sign in sheets we will be putting out at Pride.

We lobbied for an LGBT Library Collection – and we got it!

We wanted to start an LGBT Reading Group – and we did!

Now we want to move the group up to the next level. We want to create a community group that will allow all members of the LGBT community to socialise, access information, or even get involved in projects & campaigns. To start we would like to run a series of community events, like film nights, to give everyone an alternative way to connect with the LGBT Community & make it accessible to all. Eventually, if we get enough support from the community, the council & existing LGBT groups we’re hoping to be able to set up a designated Rainbow Room somewhere in town giving us somewhere to meet other than a pub or club, BUT we need your help to do it!

Next meeting

The next LGBT Alternative Community group/reading group will be held on 31st May, 7:30pm at the Mailcoach. The meeting will decide what books we want to read next as well as looking at possible post pride events & other social events we might want to try out, like cinema clubs. If you want to have a say in the kind of events we do stop by on the 31st to enter the discussion.

Next Reading Group

Hi All,

The next proposed meeting of the LGBT reading Group will be 27th March 2012, 7pm in the Mailcoach. The bookbag is still available in the Mailcoach if anyone needs a copy of the current books. We're also looking for suggestions for the next batch of books.

Reading Group

The next reading group session will be held at 7pm at The Mailcoach, Tuesday 21st February. Anyone is welcome to join the reading group. The current reading group books are still available through the Mailcoach Bookbag or through Swindon Libraries. The Bookbag also includes a handful of free copies of The Fingersmith for anyone who wants them.

We're also looking at possible events for LGBT History Month, possibly centred around specific LGBT books or films so if anyone has any ideas or recommendations please let us know.

LGBT Reading Group

The next LGBT Community Reading Group meeting will be Tuesday 17th Jan, 7pm at the Mailcoach. If you want to look at any of the books you can either sign them out of the book bag at the Mailcoach or they're available at the Central Library as part of the new LGBT collection.
